Local Groups

It is important that Local issues are managed at a local level. Council Watch's Constitution is designed to enable small groups of residents in each Municipal area to form a local branch or chapter of their own without the need to formally incorporate themselves. Incorporation is often a barrier or cumbersome, especially for a local group of residents who would rather spend their time dealing with real local issues that affect their community. We have many local groups already in many municipalities. We also have special-interest and single-issue groups that partner with us from time to time. We seek out community groups to help support local issues and awareness.

With one united voice we are a powerful lobbying group that councils cannot ignore!

How a Council Watch Group works:

  • Set up local group on social media (Facebook) - we do the work for you

  • Use Council Watch Branding and be supported

  • Ensure LOCAL content fills the void of newspapers

  • Ensure LOCALS become aware of Local Council Decision Making and Issues

  • Regularly seek and publish information (including via the use of FOI)

  • Share information and network with other Council Watch Groups

  • ENSURE ONE COLLECTIVE VOICE ACROSS THE SECTOR

Council Watch is here to assist you with skills, tools, knowledge, and support along the way.

Group Registration only costs $40 per year (which is much cheaper than the costs of incorporation). By forming a group you do not need to elect a committee and hold AGMs (unless you are incorporated)

We encourage all members and groups to spend their valuable time focused on growing their local branch and advocating for local issues.
