Council plans to charge up to $19 per day ($6.20 per hour) to use foreshore parking spots.
The Mornington Peninsula (MPS) attracts large numbers of day trippers and holiday makers, particularly during the peak summer period.
MPS holds some of the most valued tourist and local visitor areas within Victoria.
The visitor economy underpins the viability and success of many local businesses within the MPS.
Council FAILED in its implementation the paid parking trial and created confusion and mistrust.
Council is using UNTESTED PROJECTIONS to PREDICT income.
Council has no control over consumer and tourist visitation, and many have already left, never to return.
The business community and the community at large, cannot trust MPS to get this right.

NO BEACH TAX

We, the undersigned, petition the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council to:

REJECT the proposal for PAID foreshore parking in its current form.
REJECT the continued use of Surveillance based parking.
ENSURE any future paid parking has physical ticketing machines.
ENSURE no new administration staff are hired for the implementation of any scheme.
ENSURE residents are provided 2 FREE permits per household and can purchase additional permits for $50 each, annually.
ENSURE any exemption permits for local residents are available as permits to be placed on vehicles in advance.
KEEP any foreshore parking or parking in business activity precincts FREE for locals and FEES for visitors to be kept to a minimum, to the encourage visitor economy to thrive.
